WGYL is a youth lacrosse league for girls that provides a dynamic and inclusive environment for players to develop lacrosse skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. Girls of varying skill levels participate in learning the fundamentals of the game through practices and competing in weekly travel games on Sundays. Coaches emphasize skill development and progression, and promote camaraderie among team members while fostering a love for the sport.
WGYL competes in the Founders Girls Lacrosse League (FGLL).
The Classic program focuses on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Participants learn fundamental lacrosse techniques, positional play, and game strategies in a supportive and inclusive environment. Coaches emphasize fair play and character building, fostering both athletic and personal growth. The program includes age-appropriate drills, practices, and league games to provide a well-rounded lacrosse experience for youth players.
Our Classic program competes in the Founders League (Founders Girls Lacrosse League (fgll.org). The season consists of 8 to 10 games starting in early April and running through mid-June against other town programs in a 5 - 45 minute ride radius of Westwood. Games are held on Sundays. WGYL fields teams from Grade 3 through Grade 8.
The philosophy of the Classic program is that teams are evenly balanced based on player skill and that all players participate equally (i.e. equal playing time) in all games. There are no "A" and "B" teams, nor standings or playoffs at the Classic level in FGLL.

Required Uniform
The required uniform for WGYL is for grades 3-8. It is ordered during the registration process.
Join our Lacrosse Skills Sessions for 1st and 2nd graders! In this exciting program, your child will learn the basics of lacrosse in a fun and supportive environment that does not require travel. Our coaches will focus on developing essential skills like catching, throwing, and basic game understanding. Through engaging drills and intra-squad games, players will build confidence, teamwork, and a love for the game. We've revamped our format for 2026 to include one weeknight practice a week with intrasquad games scheduled for Sunday mornings. Get ready for a season of active play and skill development.

On Sunday, November 15th, I’ll be hosting a Play for a Purpose Youth Lacrosse Clinic in Walpole with my former UMass teammate and current 5th/6th grade select coach, Hannah Heller. We’re hosting the clinic to raise funds for Strong Girls United, the organization we’ll both be running the London Marathon for this spring.
Strong Girls United is a nonprofit that uses sport, mentorship, and community to help girls build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of self. It’s a cause that means a lot to both of us, and we’re excited to combine our love of lacrosse with fundraising for such a great organization!
Hannah and I are both former Division I lacrosse players from UMass Amherst and currently coach select-level girls’ lacrosse in Walpole, so we have lots of experience working with young athletes and creating an environment that is both fun and competitive.
I’ve attached the flyer below with all of the information, but here are the details:
